I have a 1982 Collector Edition. I replaced the old freon with R134 and it just does not cool as well. I understood that was going to happen but did not want to support the cost of the R12 service.
I have, in the past, seen that one could replace the OEM condenser (11 fins per inch) with an upgraded model that has, I believe, 18 per inch which would help bring the AC temp down lower.
Does anyone know where one might find this upgrade condenser?
I got my condensor from www.ACkits.com. I forgot which size I used but it was the largest one that would fit. Made my own brackets. You will also need new hardlines to go from the condensor to the rubber hoses. I made them with parts rom DocsBlocks. The change made a major improvement. I can get temperatures at he vent below 40 degrees. I also have a Sanden compressor.
I got a complete condenser kit (thats the condenser, dryer, dryer hard line, and mounting brackets) from Vintage Air for $199 plus shipping, it was a real direct fit to the original system and working great with the R134a.
Many thanks. I often see something that interests me online or a specific part and can never find it again. Never knew how I found it in the first instance.
