Default 1982 CE Fuel Grade Recommendation

Would like to know what the experts on this forum would recommend for the grade of fuel to use in my 82 CE?

I'm using regular unleaded at this point but every now and then I can hear the valves knocking...Thanks for the help.

What's it say in your owners manual? No need/benefit for anything higher than that.

your owners manual will say that you need regular gas .i dont know if the gas today is rated differant than in 82 or since the car has a lot of miles on it ,but my car likes the mid grade better .

Today's regular is slightly higher octane than the equivalent in 1982, at least around here. There is no reason to believe that a car would need higher octane as it gets older.

If you do not experience knock or pinging, there is no advantage to mid grade or high octane gas.

IMO if you're spark knocking you may need to lower your timing a little. Also higher octane should resolve this. If not you a bigger problem that will need to be addressed.
