Default Conservitive Fender Flares

About six Months ago I beleive Corvette Fever did an artical on doing small fender Flares to a C3. They did it the hard way and Cut and filled in the Rear Fenders but what they ended up with is about what I'd like. I want an extra inch or inch and a half I have no intenstion of doing the fronts. The L-88 style Flares are not what I want I think they look great on the right car and mine is not it. A company in Auburn Washington right down the street from me used to do them on Late C3's and then sell the cars to Japan for about 3 times what they would get here. I'm sure they and there flares are long gone. Any body else know of somebody doing them? Thanx...

Yep, that would be what I have in mind. Do You know if it was done by hand like Corvette Fever did on there 76 or where they are a Bond on Flair or a complete Fender replacement? If you Google Corvette fender flaire You will come to the Corvette Fever Artical soon enough.

Default Conservative Fender Flares

Hi GB 80'

I am an old bodyman who has seen this early in my career. A well healed customer bought a new 1982 and came to our shop for a LT1 transplant, custom hood mural and fender flare work.

We had sandblasted the inner wheel wells front and back and took a small jig saw with a metal blade and cut through the middle of the fender flare radius starting from the back to the front.

The desired shape was to retain the original lip. We added to the new 1" space middle with fiberglass mat with lots of resin to reinforce the stretched underside.

Once cured we roughed and feathered the topside and filled with fiberglass mat and resin again . After feathering back and a fill of fiber reinforced filler gave us a very modest but noticeable 1" flare.

Easely done. Patience is a key. You need to look from the back to the front and visa versa to keep the lines uniform and fluid.

Very trick and late 70's early 80's ...

Good Luck,

Dano,

I had a set of four on my vette that were small. They were too small for what I wanted,so I went to the wide road race style.Heres a pic of the old ones before they were replaced.

I cut the olds ones off and still have them somewhere.
