Rear End
I am new here and have a question. I have a 1933 Ford which has a 1971 Corvette rear end in it. I inherited this car and since I have had it, it has had a shimmy in the rear end. Initially I thought a wheel was off balance. I had the rear tires balanced and it is still there.
I jacked up the rear end and put the car in drive. There is a visible vibration and almost a grinding noise on the left side. I took the half shaft off and the trunnion off of the left rear wheel and it seems that the hub bearing is ok, but havn't got it out.
After all that here is my question.
1) How is the hub removed? I took off the trunnion from the back of the wheel, but I don't know what is still holding the hub in. I want to inspect the hub bearings.
2) How is the yoke in the differential removed? I would like to also inspect the bearing in the left rear end. Does the pumpkin need to be disassembled to get the yoke out?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
