Heat Riser... Can I Trash It?
My 77 350 is 100% stock and am going to put my exhaust manifolds back on soon. I was wondering, can I leave the heat riser actuator off? Will the choke (Q-Jet) still work well enough? I know the riser is vacume opperated, and closes the pasngr side exhaust manifold (single stock exhaust). Can I leave the actuator off the manifold, plug the vacume port on the carb, leave the valve on, but fix it in the open position? It was so badly rusted, Not sure if it ever worked. Choke works fine though! :cheers: :cheers:

If you have stock exhaust sys, and you 'leave-out' the riser, you'll probably be short an inch or two from hooking your pipe to your manifold. Have to keep it in? Just disco the vac line as you stated, and be sure the riser is in the 'open' position. Good Luck -Rod :chevy

Yeah, I know I have to keep the actual valve in line with the exhaust, but this actuator's gotta go. Choke should still work fine though HUH?

Yeah, your choke is seperate, it'll continue to work. I'm almost positive your stock config was with the electric assist choke. (has wire running to the choke housing)
The 'riser' was there to assist in quick induction sys warm-up during cold engine oper. Another words it blocked-off partial exhaust to help force it thru the cross-over in the intake manifold. This was for better cold drivability.
You can either 'snip' the actuator, or paint it red and put a short fuse in the vac nipple and call it an 'anti-theft' devise!! :lol:

With all the rusted crap I'm dealing with throughout the exhaust manifold system, a short fuse and a pound of C-4 is what this Mother***** is going to get. Thanks man.... Go USA Hockey!!! :D :D :D
