I decided to replace my kick panel speakers in my '69. Found bubba had installed round 4" in the hole(atleast he left me the original screws stuck to the magnet on the speaker). I purchased a pair of Infinity 4652cfp 4"x6" speakers, but when trying to fit them in, I found the opening is slightly larger than the speakers mounting frame. Was there some type of bracket or extension originally used to mount these speakers in the kick panel location? Thanks.....
Sorry I can't really help Andy, Bubba got to mine too. The speakers wound up in holes cut into the rear strorage/jack compartments. On the list to replace though...
BTW, sweet ride!!! Looks familiar :D Is that a coupe or vert?
Tom
Just a coupe.(Had a tough time finding a '69 427 matching #'s in good shape. I would have liked a vert, but the coupe does just fine.)
Nice side-pipes. If it wasn't for the price I would add them to mine, but I think I'll end up with the chambered exhaust setup. Should be a big step-up from the stock stuff on there now. It doesn't even sound like a corvette unless you open her up....
Andy. There is one strap about 1/2" x 6" that rivets to the speakers front to back at the bottom and screws to the bird cage. There should also be a weather shield in there above the speaker. Junkyard parts, never seen them in a catalogue.
George (put back in the speakers in last weekend in the 1969)
The original speakers from GM are about 4" x 10" long and fit in the opening. As Tom said, I remember that they came with the 2 brackets on each. You could make something. The brackets are cheap "strap" steel. There is also a thin plastic "guard" that goes behind each speaker. Hope this helps. Chuck
She is running good. I just sent my card to Lars to be rebuilt. I have one rear wheel bearing that is starting to make noise, so I am getting both sides done next month. Unfortunatly that led to the while you are in there state of upgrading to a SS parking brake, replacing a few pinion seals that are starting to leak. The never ending story, but it's sure fun to drive and always get a double take from passers by....
Andy,
I just went through a major while you are there story.
It started out as a valve job and ended up as a total engine rebuild,
clutch, suspension,etc.
