Default Rear Hlaf shafts different diameter

I am rebuilding the rear end of my 76 vette, and noticed when i removed the half shafts, the are not the same size in terms of diameter. The passenger side is much wider the the driver side.
Is this okay to put back together or do I need to install new ones?
All pictures, etc, seem to indicate they should be the same diameter.
thanks

Just my opinion, but as long as they weigh the same i cant see it being an issue? Be nice to have then the same though.

Yes they should be same. Chevy broke a halfshaft during a race & took one from a Corvette in the spectator parking lot & later increased dia.

You probably have a replacement halfshaft. At some point the diameter of the halfshafts changed. I don't remember the details of when the change occurred but I think later year vettes had larger diameter halfshafts. My car has the same diameter halfshafts so I never had to look into the issue in detail.

75-79 and service parts starting in 75 used 3" shafts. Previously they were 2.5". Someone replaced yours in the past. The 3" are stronger, how much I couldn't say.
