It is true that silicone brake fluid is more compressible than the DOT4 or DOT5, but a lot of people never notice the difference. Having that soft of a pedal because of fluid choice would be unusual, but not impossible.
Dot 5 is silicone brake fluid.
The dozens of people who I know and knew over the last 30 some years complained about the soft pedal when using silicone fluid. They all noticed it.
A few people chose to stick with the Dot 3 fluid when changing to SS calipers, so they could keep the firm pedal. Their reasoning for this is, Dot 3 and the moisture it atracts can't harm the SS piston sleeves in the calipers.
My next move is to remove the master cylinder and check the adjustment of the push rod. I will also bench bleed the master cylinder again while I have it off the car.
I am closely following another thread with someone having similar problems.
My dad's solution is to unscrew the radiator cap and drive another one under it. I thought that was pretty funny.
I replaced everything from the master back except the hard lines and bled forever. Bought the Motive pressure bleeder and it solved my soft pedal issue. I feel your pain, good luck.
This may be unorthodox, but it works everytime for me. I have a bleeder resevior. I hook it up to the caliper as normal using a clear hose and tape the other end to a shop vac. switch the vac on and monitor the m/c resevior and watch until the clear hose stops drawing bubbles.
I sam having the same problem with my 1980. They have been bled and bled and the pedal still goes to the floor. Taking it back so the mechanic can check the calipers again...he says the master cylinder is not b ad...this will be the 3rd tiome I've taken it back AFTER the brake job. Getting frustrated. Telling him to keep it until he figures out what the heck is wrong. I can't keep taking it in to get bled every week...GRRRR..../.

It seems most people want to ignore the fact that the rears have 2 bleeders!!!
