I'm installing my shock mount bolt in my supports after getting my trailing arms back from rebuild. These are my originals mounts, which were really tight (and rust welded) when I removed them.
Now they just slide in. They don't move much, the bolt has a solid flat side that fits well into the bearing support. The splined area at the other end looks perfect but it DOES NOT grab.
Is this okay? Will it be better after the shock is on and lined up properly?
It will probably be OK... but mine are the same way and I'm going to hit them with a couple quick tack welds to be extra sure. Nothing big enough to overheat the new strut rod bushings and easy to hit with a cut-off wheel IF they ever had to come off.
I figure the 1st ones went 40 years, I'll be dead the next time. This is my one and only premeditated Bubbaism on this job, as I'm not about to replace both spindle supports and shock mounts.
There is a little bit of play even when the splines are in perfect shape. Jack up the trailing arms to ride height and tighten the nuts and the mounts should be in the correct position.
