Default Front wheel bearings

Question 1: are the front inner bearings the same as the rear outer?

Question 2: Anyone have part numbers for front inner/outer bearings that are worth using?

BCA/National: A3 front, A5 rear....are these any good??

Drove my '81 today and getting noise from the left front....wheel is alot warmer than the others....I replaced the bearings a few years ago...have only 1k miles or so, but something is making that noise. Will be looking into it soon.

Thanks

you may have a brake dragging or some runout on a rotor. Don't know if the bearings are the same, but get USA made Timkin bearings if you can. Front bearings are easy, I have a paper complete with pics if you want it.

Default Timkin

Last time I installed Timkin's, they were not made in USA. Not to much left that is! Sad!

The BCA/National # A3 & A5 will convert to a Timken Set 3 and Set 5. The set 5's are used in the 68 and up front hubs and all 63-82 rear supports.

UPDATE:
Went to drive home on Sunday afternoon and the noise was loud from the start...got about 1/2 mile and pulled into a parking lot....called for the flat-bed.

Have not been able to disassemble anything yet as my floor jack had decided to relieve itself of all its fluid....gotta fix it first.

If its not one thing its twelve.

SixFooter,

I'm replacing all the suspension components in my recent Ebay horror 81.
It hasn't seen the road but twice since I bought it a year ago.

I thought while I'm tearing everything apart, cleaning and painting it, I might as well put in some new bearings, so I could use what info you have on this.

Thanks,
Darla

Darla, this thread is about 6 years old.

You might want to PM SIXFOOTER for the info or see if Lanny replies, he has done a hell of a lot of work since this thread!

Good luck.

Good year the '81! Yay, my 2000th Post
