OK, I had horrible alt whine when I added my subwoofer amp. I searched the forum and found a ton of "suggestions" mostly suggesting my alternator was bad (it is 2 days old), rewire everything, reground it all etc....BUT....I made a quick trip to Wally World(Wal Mart), bought a noise eliminator the gets rid of ground loops on RCA plug circuits, plugged it in and voila....no more whine! Zero period, much easier fix than most, I just wanted to pass this along in a new thread because there were a lot of threads on this topic.
I've got one in my car and it's very effective if the whine is coming from the alternator, fan blower,...
but it will NOT change a thing if it's coming from the ignition components ( spark plug wires and distributor ).
In this case, use only good shielded wires, avoid ground loops at all cost, and use a good ground for power and signals.
