I swapped my duel point for a HEI and put a Holley 650 on my 350.
Ran great for a while now it cuts out when i lay into it a bit.
Checked float levels and timing. Could the distributer be bad?
I would start by removing the air cleaner, start the car and blip the throttle hard enough to open the secondaries while looking down the carb. Do you see fuel flowing from the secondary venturis? If that's OK, I'd check total advance.
It probably depends on which spring is in the housing. The light pressure short yellow spring will probably show motion but as you get to the stiffer springs I doubt you will see anything.

Does it cut out while sitting in the driveway (rev. it) or just on the highway?
Is this a new Holley or just new to the car?
Only does it under a load. Works fine in the driveway, but not as much fun. Is a new carb and float levels are fine. I think it may be in the distributer. Gonna try a different one to find out. New plugs, wires, dist, and carb only has about 600 miles on them.
Thanks for all the responses. This is a great Forum.

i dont rememeber exactly who but on this site someonewhere it was said that if you can get the vacuum secondaries to open in the driveway then your spring is too light.
also maybe the pump cam needs adjustment. rarely is a holley perfect out of the box

Of course you may have to pencil in your eyebrows after doing this if you advance your timing
Is it cutting out as in "the engine quits" and you have to restart? OR is your engine bogging down when you get into it, and then recovers after the bog? If it's a bog, you need to experiment with a Holley secondary spring pack. The bog is usually caused by the secondaries opening at the wrong time on those vac. sec. Holleys. And, the new carb never seems to come with the correct spring installed for your application. Good luck!
Check the wires on the pick up coil as well. They tend to crack & break at the coil and will cause the engine to cut out and/or hesitate on acceleration.

good advice.
or put the point dist back in for a check
Under load it would spit and spudder and not recover until i let off the pedal. Then run great, could the vacuum advance cause that?

Yes, the vacuum advance rotates the pick up coil. If the wires are cracked it can cause those symptoms. Easy to mistake for a carb problem. Look closely at the wires at the pick up coil. Not the coil in the cap. If it is the problem you'll need to pull the distributor to repair. You can buy just the pick up coil, but sometimes the shaft is gummed up enough to not come out very easily, or without removing the upper bearing with it. BTDT
