OK....after buying my '69 Coupe one of the first things I observed that needed attention was the engine component drive belts, i.e., fan/alternator/power steering belts as well as the upper and lower radiator hoses.
In taking care of these items I allowed the alternator to fall after releasing it from the adjustment bracket and it shorted out big time. No damage to the alternator that I know of but after replacing the belts and hoses I had no electrical at all. Nothing....no start, lights, horn, etc. I checked the fuse block and found all fuses intact. I have been told I probably burned out the fuseable link between the battery and the starter that protects all circuits.
Do you have power to the big terminal on the starter? The positive cable goes directly to the starter, so check there first. There is a fusible link between the starter and the alternator. This is probably where the problem is.
Thanks Paul. It was my belief there is a fuseable link between the battery and the starter; I had not been told there may also be one going to the alternator. That is where the short took place when I accidentally dropped the alternator off the adjustment bracket while changing belts. Due to other things I really have not had time to raise the Vette and take a look around the starter.
First place I'd check is the fuse link at the horn relay. This is the relay under the drivers side hood surround between the master cylinder and the inner fender. One of the wires leading to the junction has a raised link close to the end. I had one go poof years ago under power, and nothing worked until repaired. Good Luck...........
