Default need new rear end, suggestions?

Hello everyone.

i havent been on in a while and im in need of some advise. me and my dad just swapped out the cross fire injected( pos ) 350 and put in a 454 with 620 hp at 660 ftlbs of tq. from beck racing engines. and a new transmisson as well. now its time to uprgrade that rear end! what rear end should i go with. we plan on getting some slicks for the car so we need to dditch the half shalf rear end as its no in regulations for a car under 11.99.

also we are going to upgrade the suspension. who knows a a company who makes a complete performance suspension kit for an 82 vett?

any help is much appriciated!!!!!

Nice. All that HP will require some serious rear end work. You said cross fire and that means an 82, which means aluminum bat wing. Unfortunately the pumpkin in the batwing is unsuitable for what you need. What you need is a blue printed iron pumpkin. Contact Gary (GTR1999) he is the guy for that kind of thing. Changed spindles, half shafts...lot of work. The alternative is iron salad

HP and slicks you might consider a solid axle rear. You are going to spend buckets of money trying to get a Corvette rear to hold up.

yeah its an 82, sorry i didnt say that in the first post. i was hoping to get a solid rear. maybe a ford 9inch, has anyone on here swapped a ford 9 inch?? i was hoping to go solid because your car cant run faster then a 11.99 ( according to the nhra rule book) with half shalfs like the 82 has. i need a solid rear. is that what people normally do here?

sorry im somewhat of a newb to vettes. i have a 2005 nissan xterra and i made a remote turbo kit for it. it makes 360 to the wheels, and i did a r&p swap on it. but i have no idea when i comes to rear ends with the 82

Not sure why you need a solid rear end. Oliver (GrandsportC3) runs 9.47@145.30 with an indendent rear suspension. I can see the need for safety loops but those can be fabricated.

But sadly he was booted from CF. I guess he was too helpful.

He will take a 12 bolt rear and stuf it inside a Vette housing. It is not cheap though. You may have 4 or 5 grand tied up in it easily with all the half shafts and axles. If you are thinking of a solid axle it will be cheaper.

I read a post from Gary elsewhere yesterday where he broke the news. No idea what happened but he is gone from this forum.

I don't think the rules actually say that. There are thousands of Vette's running NHRA track every week well below 11.99 with no issues.

With all the close inspections I've been through at NHRA tracks over the years...not once has there been an issue with the IRS rearend! They've told me to go home multiple times for no rollbar.......

Anyway, do a search here..there are several cars with 9"'s under them...even kits available these days.

Ford 9 inch can be installed. My ol man has one in his 73. It will take some mods, but it can be done. You can narrow it and put whatever size tires you prefer.
Lets see some pics of that 454.....

GTR1999, and anybody else for that matter, is welcome to participate at Corvetteforum so long as they abide by the rules that apply to the rest of us.

BTW ... this is included among those rules:
