For this story keep in mine my license plates reads "BYBYCOP"
Cop goes by and does a Doughnut, comes up behind me then gets along side me and then he pulls me over. He says that it's illegal in Iowa to have protective cover over the license plates and that I REALLY shouldn't be doing it with plates like mine. Anyway he gives me a warning and send me on my merry way.
OH BS, him and his buddies at the station house/bar...are laughing their axxes off on that one....he just mentioned the plate cover because it's illegal, he wanted to be a ***** about it, he could have written you up....
it's a good tag, most cops I know, laugh at that sort of thing....
unless it's a riced out honda with dark windows, chrome wheels stick out, and a fart can....driver with ball cap on backwards, or worse yet, off to the side...
Yeah, I could never understand the plate-cover thing either. Here in Mn it's also illegal to run them. So, I did ask about it....was told, it was due to fact of not being able to get a visual on the number in the winter. When the roads are sloppy a thick white coat of salt and road scum cover the vehicles'. Making the plate impossible to read. One that is not covered is still readable. I checked this out this winter and they were right. On the other hand I have never heard of anybody actually getting pulled-over for this infraction. I think the cop was just messin' with ya for a good laugh.
I've heard (not sure if there is truth to it or not) that C3's are hard to radar because of all of our curves, and plate covers don't reflect back to the gun very well he might have been angry that he couldn't radar you. Like I said though, I dunno if this is true or not.

They may take a little longer due to all of the Fiberglass as opposed to steel, but not much longer. The color of your car would make more of a difference than the body style. I.E. Black or darker cars tend to absorb a small amount of radar and white or light colored cars tend to reflect a little more of the signal. I would think that we would only be talking about a difference of seconds though as you are going to be caught either way.

PROSOUTH....In Tennessee it is illegal to place any cover over a license plate or to obscure it in any way. Even if it is clear, even if they sell it at Walmart, It's ILLEGAL.
BTW My Crown Vic has 4 Wheel disc, 16" wheels with Goodyears and runs about 138 mph. Oh yeah! and it has a Motorola Radio that's awful hard to out run. Deputy#461 CCSD

The guy was pretty cool about it, I guess, if he could have written a ticket for the plate cover.
And you probably extended common courtesy, which I'm sure he appreciated.

I have an ear infection and had a stocking cap pulled way down over my ears, probably looked like some punk. He walked up to the car and was very serious but once he saw me and my wife he started to get friendly.
Anyway once he pulled us over my wife keeps saying "I DARE you", I just ignored her because I wasn't going to run the police. Later, she told me she wanted me to say "HIHICOP", because that is what I always said I'd say if they pulled me over.
By the way my family car plates read "IAM 007"

STEP AWAY FROM THE PIPE. Oh yeah and Santa Claus is NOT REAL. :jester  :seeya
radar is reflected back to the radar gun by the flat surfaces of your car....if you car has a lot of angled surfaces the it will reflect the radar away from your car at differant angles so that less of the radar gets back to the gun... so yes the body style does make a differance....look at the stealth fighter...angles surfaces, dark color, radar absorbant material.....
