I know this has been talked about and I did a search but didnt get an answer. I just got a new mini starter for a late 90s 1/2 ton truck. All the posts I read on wiring this thing said that they only had one large terminal and one small terminal. However, the starter that I just recieved has one large and two small, like the old factory one had if I remember correctly. My question, does this wire just as factory did ("s" and "r" terminals the same). There are no markings on the solenoid to indicate terminals. Hope this makes sense. Thanks, Kevin
You could test it by energizing the solenoid and measuring the voltage at the R terminal, which should be the outside one. It should be 12V when the solenoid is activated.
Could you tell me more on how to go about this. I have done it before but it was years ago on a toyota starter. Im sure I could look it up but Im just being lazy tonight. Thanks for the reply, Kevin
What Womb said is correct...the s terminal is the wire that comes from the starter switch...don't know what color you have but my 68 it's purple and goes to the terminal that is next to the block when the starter is installed...the other terminal, yellow wire goes to the R terminal and that wire comes from the coil.
If you reverse the wires, you will know right away as the starter will engage without you turning the ignition key...
If your using jumper cables attach the neg to starter case and pos to large lug on solenoid. If the solenoid is like the factory GM solenoid you would jump the terminal closest to the block to the large lug and the solenoid should fire.
Its possible the 2 terminals on your solenoid are pos(S) and ground - not Start and Run. Some foreign cars are done like this.

I just tried this and the starter fired. So this should be wired just as the original starter. Thanks for all the help, Kevin
