My wife bought me a new leather shifter boot as a stocking stuffer at christmas. I started the car for the first time this year and while I was setting in the car I looked at the shifter and began to wonder how I would go about replacing the boot. Does the Ball come off or do I have the take off the whole shifter from beneath?
Re: Replacing the shifter boot??? (Chris@VetteFinders)
Chris I know this sounds dumb, but how did you get the ball off? I tried taking the one on my 78 off and it won't turn. I don't know how to get it off without tearing it up. :conehead
I grabbed really hard and twisted it. It didn't turn, so I then got a towel and channel locks, put the towel on and then the channel locks and turned. I am not sure what the factory was afraid was going to happen there if it wasn't on at 200 ft-lbs.
Be VERY careful with the channel locks. They will def. dick it up if you aren't.

Remove the ball counterclockwise and remove the shifter pannel.
Also remove the four screws anchoring your existing shifter boot.
Then reverse procedure.
