Default Heater hoses

Am going to put new heater hoses on my 81 Vette that hasn't had the old hoses connected up in YEARS!

Do I need to flush out the heater first (using the old hoses ?) before I connect the new hoses up the engine cooling system?

Thanks, Greg

Were they were disconnected years ago when the heater core blew out?

i agree. normally a good reason someone has disconnected the hoses. i would put a bung on one heater port and then hook up another hose to the other heater port and pump it up . see if it holds a pressure test before you go flooding your cockpit with stinky coolant.

Think they were disconnected years ago cause they're not needed in Miami. Don't have history of the car unfortunately.

One of the hoses if the car has air-conditioning will need a 90degree bend in it to fit properly by the firewall.

no problem... but i would still at least do some kind of test to know if your heater core is not leaking before you hook it up..... up to you if you like a smell the same as cat ****.

I hope the Miami weather theory holds up for ya. I think I would still check it out a bit first. You could flush it with a hose and clean water to get the gunk out. Watch your floorboard and a/c drain while the water is running. If no leaks there, cap off the other core tube and see what happens under pressure. At least if it starts pouring out, it will be clean water. A cooling system pressure checker would help also if you hook the hoses up and check it with that before you run the engine and circulate coolant through it. Coolant in your car is not fun to try and clean out, new or stanky..
