brake booster bad???

Default brake booster bad???

when i shut off my car i hear a vacum leakdown from a hole located on the underside of my master cylinder close to the booster. is this a sign that my booster is leaking?

I dont know how that would be possible.. check the hose going to the booster, or it may be leaking inside the booster?

It would have to be coming from the booster, there's no vacuum within the m/c

right where the master cylinder is bolted to booster there is a small hole in the bottom of the master cylinder. thats where air is being sucked in.

If you pull the nuts off that mount the mastercylinder and pull it forward with the lines still attached, you will see this seal. Probably the seal is worn and the rod is rust pitted causing your vacuum leak.


PS. You won't find a new seal at the regular parts places. If you contact a rebuilder, he may sell you just the seal, it's a lot easier to get a new booster.

ive always had a soft pedal. new booster will be on my wishlist. thanks and i will inspect just to see.

A bad booster will give you a hard pedal not a soft one.
