thanks for everything and all the info guys, sorry i havent responded in the last couple days. it just a hard choice to make. im leaning over the autofab 4-link system right now. where would i go to get the right 9inch rear end and axle from? also are there any other kits avaible for the c3? i dont really care which is more money. i just got want a half shalf breaking at 120 mph and the next thing you know im in the wall. so money isnt the issue here. i want this done right
That still over $3500 with offset trailing arms. I didnt include the 6 link kit. With it its $4500.
Do you see offset trailing arms in the picture? I am running stock arms. I am running a 28X10.5 slick which fits just fine with stock arms and that slick is plenty of tire for a 8 second car to get 1.2 sixty foots. hell lots of guys are going into the 7's with that tire.
drag vette six link $850, $450 ring pinion, $150 spool, $1650 inner/ outer axles, $300 3 1/2" halfshafts made locally, $200 ring and pinion set up kit and misc other stuff... = $3600 so yes it is a bit more expensive, but you keep your IRS handling and not cut up your frame, or get DQ'd in a stock suspension class.

You must not have witnessed a straight axle car get out of shape at the track on the top end. When the driver corrects the solid axle lifts the outer tire up into the wheel well and screws up the geometry all to hell. watch this video of crashes and pay atttention to mustangs which have a suspension very similar to a 4 link, and some of them are converted four link cars. watch the rear tires as they get out of shape.
The next video is long but it shows my car getting out of shape due to a monster wheelie but I manage to get it right back on track once the bounce stopped. others were not so fortunate in that video. my race is at 2:36 fyi. The car's IRS is just alot more forgiving in my opinion then a straight axle.

i got my whole setup from auto fab the rear with brakes and all installed then the brackets for the car
point being you can't post a drag comp video then say

not saying that IRS is not stable but lets get real i can post 50,000 straight axle cars doing wheelies and landing fine and making the rest of the pass. 99% of drag cars are straight axle because it is better for drag racing end of story
hinez,
If you decide to go with a straight axle 4 link setup the Autofab is the only KIT that I found. It is specifically engineered for these cars and installs pretty easily if you can weld or know someone who can. For the differential, you can go with either a GM 12 bolt or Ford 9". The very easiest way is the let Autofab send you a complete one and everything will be a bolt-in, almost. You can also do the ole' buy a housing, have it narrowed, buy your axles, and so one. I did this since I am pretty picky about fitment and actually enjoy the fabrication work, not that there would be anything wrong with the Autofab piece.
Tumar made a couple of good points in his post. It sounds like he actually races his car HEADS UP as do I. There are classes where you have to have a stock suspension to qualify. I can't do those classes now. Also, I agree that IF a guy got out of shape on the track, the IRS would be much more forgiving as it is a Corvette suspension still. I still am a fan of mine 9" and 4 link, but it's a proven fact they both will work eqaually well.
One thing, I haved had a million people comment on how bada$$ my setup is when they see it from behind. MOST RACES,,,,,THAT'S ALL THEY SEE!
My 2 cents.

LOL no after i got the car running and made two more pulls on the dyno i left the car running took care of some stuff and had to get it home to shut it off did not go back for the trophy awards and then some other guy wanted it for his shop so i was like whatever LOL
I had about $2700 into my pre-assembled Autofab setup ($4900 - $2200 in IRS parts sold) in the end, so that was a big deal for me. I pretty much got the heaviest parts I could, so I'm hoping I don't have to touch anything ever again as I'll only have it on the track 4-5 times pe year. I might have consideried going 12-bolt IRS had I known a person could still get the ring and pinion setup and get it setup locally and put together for $3,600. That is a good deal. I didn't think you could even get the parts for that much when I looked at Tom's website and then I found out Tom's wasn't building them anymore and that made my mind up.
Plan on clearancing the tunnel a lot if you want the car to sit down like it should. The picture shown is the 4th attempt due to the rearend hitting the body on previous attempts.
I have to say though, this solid axle setup handles pretty darn well. I was surprised frankly. It sits pretty flat going around corners.

Thanks for the corrections. I got all the prices from Van steel. I am not knocking the IRS. I raced my 67 into the mid tens at 129 with a stock eaton posie. I like your set up. I might have done the 12 bolt spool like you with Toms 12 bolt ring and pinion. One question. Since you dont have offset trailing arms are your tires sticking out of the quarter panels. On my brothers 75 I just tried a 28x10 slick on a 7 inch rim with a 4 7/8 back space and added a 1/2 spacer and they still hit the trailing arms. What rim and offset are you running. A picture would be great. Thanks, Vinny
Just wanted to add, I know a IRS will hook just as hard if not harder than a solid axle. An IRS car can use up to a 2" smaller tire than a solid axle car to hook.
