On my 75 coupe with a/c I noticed that the grilles behind the rear window have no drainage holes or any functionality. I have been looking at other cars not same year and they have openings with a some type of vent. Does anyone have this type of setup like I have? Or can someone explain why this might be. Thanks
These vents are part of the astro ventilation. They are only functional on Non AC cars. There is a vacuum actuator to open and close these vents that is controled by the heating/ventilation control on the console.
It's astro-ventilation. There's a little lever on the early sharks on the shifting console to open/close the vents. On '75s, it's non-functional(no levers). No drainage holes either. I think in '76 they went away. Not sure why they stopped with the vents though. The bolts are starting to rust on mine, so looks like i'll be making a run to home depot for some stainless.
If it's holding water and being completely useless, then it's working right :yesnod: :chevy
If your '75 has A/C then the grills are "functioning" correctly, they store a small pool of water for the birds to drink from. In '76 they got rid of the grills completly.

A mobil birdbath..you guys crack me up!!
Thanks for the info guys. I figured I would have to remove the grilles to clean each time. I like the shop vac idea. Were the bottoms of the (fake vents painted black or the car color? Mine were painted black before the new paint.
