Correct Engine Color
I have a 1970 350, 350hp. I am in the middle of rebuilding my engine and I am not sure if my engine should be chevy orange or the more red chevy color. I have seen several redish orange engines in corvettes in magazines but i am not sure. What is the correct color? :confused: :chevy

Pretty sure all C3s (and perhaps all SBCs) were either Chevy orange or blue. Chevy Orange is very deep but it is not red.

If you went out and bought 4 different cans of spray paint from 4 different manufacturers you will get 4 different shades of the orange. Everyone seems to have their own receipe for paint.
Two that seem to be closest to origional are VHT engine enamel and the POR-15 Chevy Orange in the cans.

I have wondered the same thing. Look at the cover of the current Paragon catalog. The engine of the '65 on the cover is more red than orange. I just painted my block with the Por15 chevy orange, and it is definitely orange. For a smoother finish, I painted my rocker arm covers with PlastiKote chevy orange, and it has a redish tint to it. Go figure.
