I have been having trouble trying to get my 350 1973 to run and idle smooth since i installed a performer intake. The heads were redone by PO i'm not sure what the did,but it look's like they my have ground a little off or decked them i'm not sure.It looks to me like the intake and the heads my not be mating correct, the angle does not seem to be the same and i think i am getting a leak on the bottom of the intake. Do you guy's have any ideas what i can do? (thicker gasket or just get the intake ground ) The old intake i took off looks like there my have been some grinding done on the front and rear surface it's hard to tell. When i bought it, there was a small miss at a steady speed, i thought it was just plugs ( one was bad ) Any thing ya can think of would be GREAT. I'm just miffted enough to rip it out and try a rebuild, it smokes now when i nail it anyway. THANK'S IN ADVANCE, DaPants
Pull the intake, clean everything up (old gaskets) then set the intake on dry- no gaskets. See how it lines up and how much feeler stock it takes to fill the gap. If the heads were surfaced, they set slightly farther apart, so the front and back of the intake will set on the china walls and not touch the intake side of the heads and be parallel. With no gaskets you can see the gaps. And with the feeler gauge to measure it, you can get an idea of how much to take off the intake so it'll set flat.
That's a good idea only i'm having one of those days ( can not find then anywhere ) I took some plumbers putty and raped small ***** on some string and l laid the string along the inside edge of the heads and the front. The performer was off 1/6 ,then i tried a Summit that i had extra and could not even get it to lay down it fits perfect. The Performer is pretty much off the thickness of the carpenters string, and i think i'm going to tie it to a tree and sight my rifle in for deer season with it. The Summit there was no gap NO MORE EDLEBROCK FOR ME !!!!! Thanks it was running with the performer and i was just going to take it in and have it fixed ( Money ) but you got me thinking ( no money ) i was thinking heads instead of intake being off. You guy's are GREAT this forum has saved me many times.
