Default Disc brake help

I posted this on the C2 board, but I'm putting it over here to see what opinions you guys have.

My 64 has disc brakes on all 4's. It's time to replace my pads, and I was thinking about putting new rotors on at the same time. I've noticed that I've got some wear on the front's, but not as much on the rear.

Any advise as to what kind of rotors I should put on? There are lots of options with big price ranges. I really like the sloted / cross drilled look. Are they a good performance upgrade also?

Here's a link to summit's offerings:

Give me disc pad considerations also.

Thanks, Chris

I have slotted and cross drilled rotors but they will give you no performance advantage on the street. I did it for the looks of them. They work fine and I saw no difference from the stock rotors. I run stock pads also. I autoX the car and the yhave worked fine. Unless you are going to do some track time the stock pads will do the job.

If there is nothing wrong with the rotors and they are still within specs then I'd leave them on and just change the pads unless you're wanting to do it for the upgraded looks of slotted and crossdrilled rotors.

I went with NAPA ultra premium rotors on the rear when I changed mine out a couple of years ago. They were still "US made" and came in the same box (different label) and had the same instruction sheet inside as the Bendix made in USA rotors I put on the front. The Bendix just cost more.

A lot of the aftermarket rotors are made in China now.

Agree with above, for normal street and some light strip go with stock replacements. I use NAPA or Carquest. Have never had a problen from those sources.

Default How much and what kind of racing do u do?

For the drag racer your stock u disks will do fine. BTW weren't the original '64 rear drums?

For serious course racing u want thick disks with gas slots. Drilled rotors are expected to be weaker.

Street pads will melt on a race course but fine for the drags.
Fancy composite racing pads need to warm up to stop the car and could be dangerous on the street.

That's just a beginners look at braking.

Good luck and feel free to stop by here again with more braking Q's if u gott'm,
