Default Roll Cage install question

I am installing my roll cage and just wanted to know if you are welding your cage to the frame (like the main hoop), can you just weld the tubes directly to the frame or are you supposed to weld the flat plate to the tube and then weld the plate to frame? I know you have to use the flat plates to weld to a metal floor, but I can't find anything about welding where it contacts the frame. This is for an NHRA type tech application. Anybody know that has had their cage inspected?

http://www.nhraonline.com/contacts/tech_faq.html

For a roll bar it says "All cars with an OEM frame must have roll bar attached to frame."

For a roll cage it says ""All cars with an OEM frame must have roll cage welded to frame."

They make specific mention of the plates for welding to a steel floor if you dont have an OEM frame. I was under the assumption that since they didnt specify whether or not you need the plates, you didnt have to use them. I also found it interesting that the roll bar has to be "attached" and the roll cage has to be "welded."

But thats just the tech FAQ. I dont have a full rule book which may be more specific.

what kit did you go with?

Thanks man, I thought that was the deal, but just have been asking everyone that might know for sure.
I got the Jegster 10 point kit, now. I gutted the inside yesterday and have been making a million measurements before I get started.

take lots of pics and measurements for us

what kit did you get....

also a buddy of mine that does cages always installs them with plates he says i have good new metal with the cage and plate and that will be the best hold then when you weld the plate to the frame you are also making it thicker and stronger in the attachment area

I'll try to take some pictures and post some progress on here. It was hard when I did the 4 link. I just get working and don't think about it.
The kit is the Jegster 8 point kit to start with, but I ordered the additional kit to make it a 10 point. In retrospect you would be better off getting the actuall 10 point kit if your car is going to run in the 9's. I didn't look it up, but for some reason the rules say a 6 or 8 point has to be 1 3/4" tube, but a 10 point can be 1 5/8". The add-on kit is 1 5/8". So, I will a little extra strength (and weight) now. It's not very much, but still.....

Tech FAQ: "The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs."

Question: is the area behind the seats considered part of the floorboards?

FYI, I started on the installation today. I started a new thread just for the follow along like I did when I did my 4 link 9" installation.
