Jim Shea
I want to thank you for all the knowledge and encouragement you shared with me recently. I was the guy whose '72 steering wheel came off in his lap while driving down the road 4 or 5 weeks ago.
As an update: I finally got the courage to take the thing apart and determine what had actually happened. Turns out, someone had taken it apart before and neglected to replace the plastic retainer for the 'snap ring' that retains the telescoping shaft. I guess the 'snap ring' had worked itself out just enough the allow the wedge to slide completely out of the shaft. My wife and just completed a 20 mile Sunday evening cruise in the car and everything is back to normal -
Thanks.
Anyway, your parts explosions were invaluable ! I suspect that you had something to do with the design and production of these columns - and to still be 'engaged' with there support is amazing ! Wish there many more guys like you.
Thanks Again.
