Default intake recomendation and timing chain question

I am cleaning up the engine bay on my 76, as many of you all know from my previous posts, and came up with some more question.

1. I bought timing chain kit from Zip and installed it. I believe I have everything lined up right but when I put the gears on with the chain it was still loose. I have done one on a van before and it was extremely tight so before I try to start it up I wanted to know if it is typically to have it semi loose like this? It is straight from the Zip kit so there shouldn't be any problem but I still wanted to ask.

2. I want a new intake manifold for my 76's 350. The car is going to be a everyday driver, not a dragster. I want to get an Edelbrock that can fit a 650 carb on top. Any suggestions.

3. I will probably find out what this wire goes to once I have everything in place; but right now I just can't remember where it goes. Does anyone have a guess?

Thanks for the help.

That wire looks similar to one I have running from the passenger side underneath the engine to the drivers side firewall of my 76. It ends/clips into another 2 wire clip underneath the brake booster unit. Mine connects to the alternator wire on 1 side of the clip and the other is power for the fuse block if I'm not mistaken.

That is the only heavy guage red wire that splits into a double clip I can see.

If you want to upgrade the intake try an Edelbrock Performer. It'll clear the stock hood using the stock air cleaner setup.

Sorry can't help you on the timing chain.....

HTH......

A brand new timing chain should be snug. Did you replace the gears too or just the chain? I would replace both, no good reason to use used gears. Good quality SBC timing sets are available at any auto parts store for less than $30 last I looked at them.

Edelbrock Performer will work w/ stock carb. & stock air cleaner. Chain should be tight.

The chain should be tight. A good replacement would be a Cloyes true roller timing set.
