Default CRATE MOTOR SITE!!!!!

http://www.enginefactory.com/stroker.htm I am looking at thr 383 street stroker with 450 hp, is this a good deal for the price? DOes it come with some decent stuff, or am I going to have to be adding alot, I am basically serching for a 68-74 Shark (vert or not) w/ any engine and a 4 speed. Drop the crate motor in and go from there. Any Good?

Price does seem a little high, but I'm wondering about their technical specifications. First, they are vague about a lot of things...like "heavy duty pistons." They should be happy to list their components in detail. Now, click the dyno chart link for this engine. That's just not right! The chart shows they spun this thing to well over 10k rpm and they're even posting spreadsheet numbers at 9krpm. Unless I'm misunderstanding something, this is one I'd run away from.

total BS - these guys didnt spin up squat! that chart is a total Desktop Dyno chart which always goes all the way up to astronomical numbers - if you spun an engine with a Edelbrock cam to 0ver 9k rpm you would be able to see the valves hover about half way open.

As has been mentioned before these guys are incredibly vague about what is in their engine,

1. sure its got a scat crank. (it says steel, but the scat 9000 crank, which is very good and inexpensive is cast steel, the way they say it would imply to me that it was forged).

2.Heavy duty pistons? - what the hell is that?

3.Heavy duty engine bearings? see #2

4.Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads - these are nice but then notice that they spend the next 5 1/2 lines telling us what comes out of the box of a set of edelbrack heads - no information there that most of us dont already know.

5.High performance intake - OK great - which one, single or dual plane, aluminum?

6.Balanced, blueprinted etc..etc.. thats great (really) but do you get the sheet with all the clearances with the engine, without that there is no proof it was blueprinted, besides that they could create one sheet and just duplicate it over and over (either by hand or xerox) and just tell people it was blueprinted.

I wouldnt let these guys within 10' of any motor I was planning to run in my car.....

Compare to those found at SpeedOMotive.com. For example:

Speed-O-Motive is a good shop, IMO.
