Default 69 Fuel sending replacement?

Hi All,

I am starting a project to get my 69 coupe 350, 4 speed back on the road. It has been sitting inside since 1986. It was parked due to fuel leak in gas tank. No fuel in tank now. I'm looking at a repro tank from gastanks.com the one with the O.L. Anderson Logo. I plan on cleaning the metal fuel lines and replacing the rubber hoses. I'm looking for opinions on the fuel sending unit and fuel pump, should I order one now or should I wait until I see the condition of the one in the tank? I would hate to get the new tank in and then find out the old sending unit does not work and have to order a new one and do the job twice, but they are not cheap at $130-$150. Looking for opinions on the fuel pump as well.

Thanks,
garlicgreg

Greg,

Upload this... it will tell you step by step how to test the tank sending unit. http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...lp.php?hID=276

Also, I have the replacement tanks listed on the forum special section side of the site. http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...rds=gas%20tank 172.50

We have the sending units listed in the forum side at this link.
http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...sending%20unit 59.49 and comes with the gasket and retainer.

Unless you are going to NCRS the car this might be a lower cost for you. If you want the logo anyway we have the tanks listed on the regular side with logos.

Willcox

I just replaced my tank and sending unit. I did not care about logos or original symbols. I would change the sending unit it if its original and the tank was leaking. Its probably all rusted. Its really not allot of money and not something you want to revisit if you are already replacing the tank

I got my tank from zip ($200-230). I also installed a new sending unit. Its a no brainer at $75 bucks. These new sending units seem to be made of all stainless.

Your tank sending unit sensor should read 0 - 90 ohms through the entire sweep of the float.

You can make up your own anti squeak pads from roofing tar paper for the tank bottom and straps.

I filled my new tank slowly in 2 stages. First stage just covered the sending unit when the car was level to make sure it didn't leak. I could have jacked it up quick again if the O ring or sending unit leaked. I then filled the tank until it was just at the welded seam that goes all the way around incase the seam was an issue.

A agree, if your sending unit is salvageable, use it after testing it! Make sure you ensure your fuel lines are clean and clear. I had a 68, that sat in a warehouse for 15 years, and the gas had turned into tar. It was a real pain to get the lines clear, and the tank was toast!

If you do reuse the sending unit, be sure to get a new gasket.
