Default transmission help - please

Getting ready to remove the transmission from my 81 and am seeeking some advice. I did a search on transmission removals and have some questions

1. Removal of the driveshaft, can this be done by unbolting the u-joints and pushing the drive gear into the tranny to clear?

2. Does the motor have to be supported when you release the tranny. I am removing it form underneath

3. I read in some of the posts that the distributor should be removed to avoid damaging it???? Not sure why

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Mark

1. That's correct. Make sure the shaft of the yoke is free of debris so that you don't damage the rear trans seal.
2. The motor should be supported after the trans is out. It will hang down at the rear, at least if it has a flywheel and possibly damage the motor mounts.
3. You will need to tilt the engine back a little to slide the trans out. The distributor will hit the firewall if you lower the engine too much.
