Default power door lock problem

My door locks will lock but not unlock. Both switches will lock the doors, but neither switch will unlock them. The interior lights dim slightly when the doors are locked, but when hitting unlock on either swicth the lights do not dim. This leads me to believe I"m getting power to the locks when I press lock on either side, but no power when I press unlock on either side. See my post about my service manual in General, but is there a relay for the locks, and could that possibly be the problem? i have a wiring diagram, an AIM and a service manual, but I have to admit, when it comes to wiriing I'm kinda lost. I really don't know what all the symbols mean and how to read them. BTW, they used to work fine last winter.

Don't know if this helps or not, but the hole "A" on the plastic connector that plugs to the back of the pdl switch has a constant 11.67 volts to it. No other holes have power to them.

There is no relay for the door locks.
Both L and R locks operate from the drivers side switch directly, even when you operate the pass switch.
Both L and R locks ground at the pass door.
The system is a little odd in that the power and grounds are reversed to make the locks operate.
First thing I do is check the grounds on the pass door.
2nd thing I do is plug in a known good pass switch because at that time I have the pass door panel off.
If that doesn't fix it I plug in a known good drivers side switch.
That usually does it but the pigtails at the switches commonly don't make good contact and have to be replaced.
I'm a test light person but other than checking the A term for voltage I do the parts replace thing. I always keep a couple switches around.

You can use an ohm meter to check the wiring from side to side for an open circuit.

This article was published in Corvette Enthusiast this past April and details how to troubleshoot, troublesome power door locks.

Ok, like I said, I'm not a wiring expert, but I have found that I have power at the "a" terminal on both doors. Also, I checked the ground and it looked good, but I took it off, cleaned it and reinstalled anyway. I put the switches on the opposite doors and now I have nothing, no lock or unlock. Anyone have any ideas?

The original right side switch is no good.

Roger, that says power window switch. That will work for the doors too? I'm guessing that's the same generic switch you can pick up at auto parts stores right? If so I'll pick one up tomorrow and give it a shot.

Yes it works for the power locks and its also a window switch on other cars. If your careful and it matters you can change the outside plastic from yours that says "lock" on it.
Yes most of the parts stores have them under the HELP brand as #49241 but I doubt any will bring them up under a vette in their computer.

No I figured it wouldn't be listed car specific, but I knew I had seen them at the parts store, but didn't know till you confirmed it that it would work for me. Thanks
