Hi,
I'm looking to replace my TH350 in my 1980 with a new one.
I was looking at the Performance Automatic Transmissions on Jegs web site...they have a "Corvette Specific" one because, per the Jegs tech, the Corvette has a difference tail housing.
Not that I'm doubting the tech, I was jsut wondering what is so different with the tail housing...mine looks like a normal 6 inch tail housing.
Can anyone shine any light on how they are different?
TIA

the corvette uses' a shorter tail shaft for the th350 and the 700r4, they were used in other cars and trucks but only rarely, you can put the long shaft trans in a vet but you have to change the crossmember and drive shaft. I installed a 700r4 from an f body in my 81, have to modifie the tail to make it fit
I bought my 1980 new in 1979(still have it). It was an L-48 with a turbo350 and a lock-up converter. I've purchased two rebuilt turbo 350's w/o mentioning that they were for a corvette. They were shipped to me and installed perfectly w/o any mods. Did I just get very lucky?

I purchased that tranny from jegs and installed it in my vette.I had the same question as you did and called Performance Auto on this and he said they were different.I purchased the one for Vettes because I want the lifetime warranty. So far the Tranny has been fine.It has a very mild shift kit in it.When you stomp on it it does shift through the gears very nicely and has a good down shift. What I dont like about it, is in manual mode when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear there is a small delay.I called performance auto about this, they said pull my valve body out and send it to them and they will fix it.I never got around to doing that.I wish they would send me one so I can swap it out.In there defense I didnt ask them if they would do that.
