my '69 came with sidepipes when i bought it, the tail lights were
also converted to those bubble lenses, they look  , only
problem is -- i don't have back up lights
so i was thinking....would the back up lamps from a '67-'68 mustang
fit in the slot where the muffler tips used to be at?
i don't know if it would be too big for it, but it seems about the right
size...the wiring shouldn't be too hard to fabricate right?
I don't need no stinking backup lamps, my car was made to go forward! ;)
No, seriously. If they fit, you shouldn't have a problem. The question is, is the original wiring intact? Or did they rip it out and splice or rewire. As I'm sure you know, the inner lights are only reflective aside from reverse. As long as that wiring is still in place, you should be good to go. If not, it'll be a project to rewire.
IMO, like when my car was converted to custom tail lights, the wire was just cut, I can't see anyone taking the time for that rear harness to pull the wire back...just find it in the tape, and your' home...be sure to solder the connection/splice, and cover with RTV...only waterproof way to make connections that will NOT fail....
There was someone here from Georgia I believe that had a blue chrome bumpered vette that did what your thinking. IMO it looked very nice. He too used mustang backup lights in the location your considering. I can't remember his name, but remember he had a BBC with a Cowl induction hood, car was beautiful. I remember his clucth blowing and going through his stock bellhousing, maybe someone else will remember his name?
thanks for the replies...
if someone else had done it before, it will probably fit well if
no perfectly...i think all the previous owner did was replace
the lenses...what i should've said was that i now have red
back up lights...it's just a matter of adding on the backup
lights and rewiring everything to work properly
I was thinking of this also using aftermarket round BU lights and fabricating an AL adapter braket to fit inside the bezel and use its mounting locations and screws. You will still have to do some fabrication at the bottom of the rear valance or make an adapter bracket since the 69 openings and exhaust bezels are U shaped and the stang lights are oval. Or if you're good with f'glass, you could glass it over. Post pics if you do this! Good luck!
