'75 Automatic, my backup lights stay on in all shifter postions. I've opened the console up and loosened the bolts to adjust the switch with no change. I assume the switch needs to be replaced?
If so, whats the best way to get that switch in and out. It really sucked getting to that bottom/reward bolt to loosening. I figure trying to put that bolt back in when I replace the switch is going to really tick me off. Any recommendations?

well i think you can get at if you move the shift boot out of the way.....i just was fooling around with mine when i repalced the shifter cable......you can get the adjustments from both sides of the center console and i think if you take off the shift ball and loosen the center console you can take the shift boot out and get access to it.....i determined that i could adjust mine without having to touch that bottom bolt inthe well.....good luck bob
no wait a minute......does the car start only in park?......
Car starts in park and neutral only. But the reverse lights are always on. Adjustment doesn't seem to do anything for me, so I figure I need to replace the switch.
Just looking for any tips to getting that bottom bolt in and out.
i replaced mine, 79, due to no start problems when in park, i had to take a 5/16" (yellow) nut driver, heated the tip red hot, and bent it at a 45* angle, to get that back bottom screw back in. could only turn it a small amount at a time, but got it back in. patience.
