The scoop showed up today and looks great. I think I will be able to use a slightly larger air filter: You can see about an inch of space above the 2 inch filter.
My question is, how do I mount it? I am planning on cutting the old scoop off, roughing the surface and bonding the scoop with glass filler.
Any advice prior to me starting would be appreciated!!!

Mike why didn't you tell me you had a post! It looks like that cowl should work well for you. I'm no body man, but maybe you cn aline the cowl on the hood and either use screws or rivets to mount it to the hood, then once it's secured onto the hood with fiberglass, remove the screws/ rivets and finish the glassing. Maybe one of our body pros will chime in with a better idea.

To make cowl induction work right with cold ram air effect. You have to place the rear of opening as close ad possible to the front window. that is clearing your wipers of course.

HOLY SCOOP! That thing looks sweet!
I was looking at one similiar on a different web site, but they wanted like 500+ bucks for it.
Is this the "GM Style(NEW ITEM!)" on the page with specs of 28 1/2" Wide x 53" Long x 4 5/8" High??
Also, how do you think the strength of the hood will be once completed?
Re: Got the new scoop, need help/advice... (74VETTE)
That is the scoop. I hope that the hood retains the strength from the underhood pieces. I figure that is where most of the strength comes from anyway. I am trying to figure out what I can cut and how to blend it in.

I think that once I chop off the old scoop, the new one will settle down better. I think it still has to move closer to the window to work efficiently.
Re: Got the new scoop, need help/advice... (tworottiedogs)
Here's a thought. Why not take your pics down to the local marine supply place and talk to some folks who are experienced with boats? Maybe somebody there can refer you to a pro who'll do the job for you on the side?
Not to try and discourage you from trying it yourself, but the hood is a highly visible part of the car and a mistake will show badly and a botched job will cost you lots of $$$.
Re: Got the new scoop, need help/advice... (tworottiedogs)
Hi Mike,
I suggest you build an air cleaner base that will seal against the closed hood. This will assure that you are feeding outside air to the motor instead of heated engine compartment air. Check out any Winston Cup Car and you will see that they all have air cleaners that seal out the heated air. Same with the NHRA Pro Stockers and the Pro Stock Trucks (Now Comp. Eliminator). The former Pro Stock Trucks have a hood very similar to what you are doing (cowl induction). If you know where there is one in your area it would be worth a look.
As far as glassing it in.....I'd leave it to the pros. I've seen way too many botched jobs. Good luck with your project...it'll be kowl

I think Chris Breaux has the same scoop on his Vette. Maybe he'll be able to help ya out.
Can't really tell from the pic, but with the size of that scoop I would think that you'd have more than an inch clearance atop a 2inch filter. Are you using a hi-rise manifold? To gain additional clearance(and use a larger filter) you might consider the popular L-88/LT-1 air cleaner bases. They're the drop base design and will probably give you another inch or so in filter height.
Re: Got the new scoop, need help/advice... (1970 Stingray)
I can't use a drop base because of the carb (Predator). It is a big azz carb. The stock hood has the underliner that has the cutout for cowl and I think I can leave that portion of the hood on after cutting off the scoop.
I would like to have a pro do the install. I would like to have a pro do the entire car over but there is one major item missing (really two items...) $$$$ and wifes aproval to spend $$$. I would be able to embezzle enough money from my own paycheck to buy glassing material but I don't think I can sneak enough to have a pro or even an non-pro do it.
