I see that the "tabs" that are supposed to be in the center console are broken. This is where the console shift plate is held down with four screws in each corner.
I see Ecklers has a repair kit, and was wondering if it really worked, and how in the heck do you hide the screws that come with the repair kit?
I have used it. It does work -- you don't screw the plates down, you glue them to the console. The screws are for the console.
Biggest problem I had is that they don't really like to be used repeatedly -- They came off the 2nd time I unscrewed the console -- so, you're probably going to have to re-glue them evertime you work in that area.
Still, they do work and It's cheaper than a new console!
I made my own tabs. I glued them on with a two part glue/epoxy stuff made for plastic. Found it in the auto section at Meijers store. Worked great, I've had the shift plate off several times since installed. Come to think of it I even drilled the screw holes in the tabs after they were glued on.
I used the kit from Mid-America and it worked really well.Instead of glue I drilled two 1/8 inch holes in the tabs, lined them up,and carefully drilled the plastic from the bottom.Used pop-rivets to attach, the heads are under the vinyl and backing, can not be seen or felt.
