Default Keisler TKO 500 Question

Folks
Does tis grommet / seal, etc stay in or on the output shaft of the TKO 500 when the transmission is installed? Or is this just for shipping and keeping fluids in before putting in the driveshaft?

Thanks
Shane

If you have removed it that's fine. It is for shipping.

I agree with spedaleden that it is intended to keep bad things out and good stuff in during shipping.

The instruction sheet for the TKO600 kit I received from Keisler said it was an either/or option: EITHER leave it on the shaft and the driveshaft yoke would just push it further into the tailshaft, allegedly not interfering with any function OR carefully remove it.

Like you, I took mine out. Using a set of hemostats [stainless-steel, polished surgical pliers), I was super careful not to cut or tear the tailshaft seal and am confident that is the case. I was not comfortable leaving it in, though it would have been measurably easier to simply push in and forget about it.

How's the new trans working out or have you finished yet?

Took the T5 out of a Mustang GT years ago. It had that same part on it. I couldn't figure out what it was for. Went to a good tranny shop and showed it to him. He laughed then told me just waht the others said, it's for shipping and even Ford leaves them on.

I have actually had the transmission in for 2-3 years ow and really like it. I just came across this piece in one of my boxes for the transmission swap and had a panic moment that maybe I should have left it in.

The one thing I will tell you is I am converting from the hydraulic set-up to a mechanical set-up this winter for the clutch. I have had some issues with the master cylinders and want to go back to simple mechanical means.
