Default My new donor engine....w/????s...

I've always wanted a 377 for the RPMs,and also, always wanted a roundie round car to play w/locally,so.....I traded a 77 vette project for 2001 Miami chassis roundie round modified car w/377,and a ton of extra parts,a extra #618 68 casting 4-bolt w/pop ups,and reworked double humps, and a 2005 car trailer w/8000lb winch.Oh...55 gallon drum of VP 103 octane fuel too.
Anyways, the engine is for my 68 convertible. This car is just a toy,and has some road racing in it's past.
The engine is forged rotating assembly w/12.5 to 1 compression, and GM performance parts bow tie Phase 2 iron heads w/2.05 intake,1.60 exhaust, and GM high rise intake, and a reworked 750 DP.No dyno papers, but suppose to be a honest 575/600 horsepower build.
The guy I got the car from built it for his son,and he was scared of it,so he decided to go racing,and....was scared of it.He bought the engine from a racing team,so he wasn't the engine builder.
He told me that I need to get a different head gasket for the street for the steam holes. Will I need to have the Phase 2 heads drilled for the steam holes?
I am going to do a cam swap, and re-ring the thing while it is out.I would like to go roller that is pretty radical, and sees good RPMs.It has a pretty healthy solid flat tappet right now.Suggestions please.I also,am going to change this over to my 6x2 Holley setup,so I need some vacuum for the carbs.
Last question.....it has a new Ram triple disk clutch setup, and hyd. throw out w/automatic flywheel.I want to run this in the 68 behind the M21.The race car has a 3 speed converted to a 2 speed. Can I run the triple disk on the street?
My 68 is being redone over the winter, and just a toy to beat on around town, and would like to see some road race events in it for fun,so not really concerned about the streetability.
As for the roundie round car.....I have always dreamed of racing local tracks on Saturday nights,so.....I have a car now, anyways.I'm just going to push it back in the corner for right now,and let it collect dust. Then see what happens.

Thanks for any info. fellas, and fella'ettes!

Looks like that engine is set up as a screamer... probably not much below 3500 or so. Bet redline (if there's one on the tach) is set around 7-7200? I'd do a bit of research... possibly join a "roundie round" forum to seek opinions on how changing the cam (and headers which will not fit your Vette) will change the power output and characteristics of this engine. If it is tight, does not smoke or rattle; I might be tempted to install "as is" with headers which match those on there now as closely as possible for diameter, length and collector just to see how scary it is in a street machine!

Another thought... some dirt series have "claiming rules" for engines which allow competitors to claim a guys powerplant for a fixed dollar amount.... this can cause builders to use less than optimum (for longevity) components if they're worried someone might want the motor. Ask the PO if this engine was built as a "claimer"... if so then definitely check out what's inside before you pound on it too much!

I have a friend here that does all my custom exhaust for cars I do that races.I'm going to try to get Danny over to take a look see.
The engine wasn't built for a claimer class, but I do know what you are talking about there.I have the paperwork on the engine....just no dyno. The engine was sold to the previous owner from a fairly large racing out fit that is over in Springfield,IL,and has all the good stuff, and tweeked. It has aftermarket bootom end,but the class made them use GM stock parts for the engine,ie...block,heads,intake.The heads were never released in production, but could be purchased over the counter. The heads are reworked w/2.05 intake valves.
My headers are one of a kind, and 1 7/8th big tube, and flow very well,so that should be cool.I can pull the side pipes,if I want to run open headers. My neighbors will love me!They already do.
I want to just drop it in,but the 68 is blown apart right now,and being stripped for repaint, and trying to get it plumbed for the accusump, and redo the suspension,so going to pull the heads w/the cam install, and check everything out.Need to loose the purple too!
Here is the toy this is going in,and the induction.

Ahhhhh...the clutch assembly is probably 26 spline, and my muncie is the original 68,so it is a 10 spline, and won't work if that is the case.I've been tossing installing a richmond, but wasn't concerned about the extra gears w/this being a around town toy.The race car has 620 gears, and was going to change my 3.55s out for 3.70s,or 4.11s to hurry up,and bring the engine into the RPM band.
That's the problem that I had before. The engine was a 302 w/aluminum flywheel, and it would wrap like crazy, but it didn't have the bottom end w/the 3.55s to get it moving.Once it got into the sweet spot...it was gone!

Yah all healed up and back to work 2 days ago after a 6mo. absence. I'm still sore at the end of the day as I haven't used these muscles for 6 months. Merry Christmas to you, and yours also.
