Default Steering Control Valve Removal

I am having some trouble removing my power steering control valve. I have disconnected the fluid hoses and have disconnected it from the linkage. I cannot get the valve itself to unscrew off. This may seem like a stupid question but I could use some tips. Thanks in advance.

If you have removed the pinch bolt you can drive a chisel in the end to spread it and loosen.

Spray a lot of PB Blaster in the slot to soak the threads. You can use a pipe wrench to unscrew the valve. Wrap the jaws in tape if you are worried about marring the surface. The threads are fine-pitch so it will take a lot of turns to get the valve off. I usually keep working the part back and forth when resistance is felt to loosen up the corrosion. It may take a while but you should be able to get the valve off without any damage to it or the cross bar.

Make sure you have the pinch bolt completely out of the control valve otherwise it will catch the threads on the relay rod. I put a pipe wrench to mine…it helped me spin the valve off the relay rod.

Good luck

Default another method

I'm sure the other methods will work, but just in case, what i did was stick a flat blade screwdriver in the gap for the pinch bolt (similar to the pic with the chisel only at a 90 to the body of the valve) and then use that as a lever to turn it. Otherwise same advise...lots of WD40, work it back and forth, etc.

Good luck!
