Default Another Casting # Thread

Hello everyone! Im sure this topic has been beat to death, but....

Picked up a 427 that was listed on Craigs in arizona, Im in Las Vegas. Was gonna use it in a boat project that I am trying to finish up and as I think about it more and more I am starting to have second thoughts of that.

If you guys could tell me what I have, maybe I can find a better use for it then a boat.

Block:
From Driver to Passenger side in front of flywheel:

Casting #: 3963512 (Does NOT have T or P next to casting #)
CONV GM6 l 8 9

Pad on Front under head: T1010CGV

Heads:
Driver Side from Rear to Front:

T 3872702 PASS GM1 K275

Passenger Side from Rear to Front:

L 7 5 GM2 PASS 3872702 T

Anything else, fell free to ask! Thanks guys!

CGV was only used once, on a 345HP LS4. Not sure of installation, but it's not Corvette. Possibly full size car, Impala?.

The heads were from a 427, many different applications. Casting dates are 1975, might be service replacements.

Curious if I paid to much or scored....

$1500 is what I paid. Completely assembled (Very clean internally) It was already set up for a boat install so no Water Pump. Edelbrock Tunnel Ram, 750 Holly Carb, Roller rockers, and Crane Stud gurdles.

Pulled the pan and its very clean internally. Havent pulled it much apart to see what parts are there. Rods are stamped GM. Dont know if its +30 or more, havent measured yet.

Deal, No Deal?

Its a 69 427 Sept. 8th of 69 This block was used for both 427 and 454, but with this date code it would of been used in a 427 application. From 70-76 in a 454 app.

The heads are closed chamber and were used on 65-66 396 and 427's. The date code's come up as late 65, so these would of been for a 66 model year. If they would of been for a 75' they would of been open chamber, not closed.

427 internal balance, 454 external balance, look at the balancer, flexplate or flywheel if still attached.

Dave.

You're right about the date code on the heads being 65 and not 75.

Since the block was cast in Sept. 69, it would be for a 1970 model year car, not '69. CGV confirms 454 cu in. unless you know different.

No idea about value...........

1500 is a good price, if you don't care about dates lining up etc... it a Big block that you say has been gone thru.. what use might it be instead of a boat? the guy said it was a 427, but looks to be stamped as a 454... check the stroke...
you don't really know what the internals are so it may be a low end torque monster or a high end horsepower monster... decodeing the numbers and knowing what are in the engine 40 years later are 2 entirely different things... but to answer your question... the price is pretty good..imho

The ad was for a 454 and when I called he said it was wrong and a 427. When I saw the castings and the date code it looked like a 427 69 Vette Motor.

It has had some work to it at one time in the last few years and was set up for a jet boat, which is why I wanted it also. Couldnt find the VIN (Covered in purple paint) until I got it home and the light hit it just right.

It has a Tunnel Ram, Holley Carb, full roller and the stud gurdles Im assuming that the cam isnt stock either. The rods and caps are casted with GM so Im assuming those are stock to the block but havent had a chance to measure anything or tear more into it.

If it WAS a Vette engine I would of had 2nd thoughts of using it in a boat. Since its not, its going in the boat.
