Default Brake Bleeding Problem

So today I put my rear calipers back on with my pads and connected the brake line. I started with my right caliper because it is furthest from the MC. I had someone pump up the pedal, and when I went to crack open the inside valve nothing happened. I had this repeated several times and still nothing happened. I then tried the outside valve with the same result. After this I went over to the left caliper and had the pressure built up and it bled fine. The inside valve and the outside valve bled perfectly. I moved back to the right and still no luck. Why wont the right rear caliper bleed?

If you crack the line where it goes into the caliper, do you get fluid? If not there is some blockage in the line. If you get fluid there, there is something internal in the caliper.

Sounds like you need to take the caliper apart and possibly rebuild...or something in the line itself. While you are at it order some speed bleeders and you can bleed the brakes yourself. Is there a bend or a crimp in the line anywhere? I think you said you checked, but you may want to double check.

Good luck.

It can take a while for the fluid to get all the way down the lines again, it always takes longer for the brake fluid to get to the rear RHS caliper.

Just let it gravity bleed for a while (ie crack the bleeder and just leave it with the tubing connected to the bleeder and going into a bottle/cup with fluid in it, this is to stop air going back up the line). If brake fluid doesn't start coming out after it has been left to gravity bleed for a while (leaving it for an hour is fine, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T LET THE MASTER CYLINDER RUN OUT OF BRAKE FLUID) If fluid doesn't start coming out after a fair while of gravity bleeding then you may have a problem. But do this before you panic and start rebuilding everything.

If you are in a rush you can do it with an assistant pushing the pedal down.

I don't want to be insulting but you are doing the bleeding procedure in the correct order right?
- Have the assistant start pushing the pedal
- crack/open the bleeder as they start to push the pedal
- have them push and hold the pedal just off the floor
- close the bleeder
- assistant then releases pedal
The order of the last two steps is CRITICAL

You may have to do this several times before fluid starts coming out, so be patient and make sure you are doing it in the right order, don't close the bleeder after they have already released the pedal or it won't work.

Oh and just in case anyone missed it the first time: DON'T LET THE MASTER CYLINDER RUN OUT OF BRAKE FLUID WHILE BLEEDING

Good luck
cosmic

EDIT: btw having someone 'pump up the pedal' to bleed will do nothing if the calipers have been off the car since there is so much air in the lines, the air just compresses, just follow the sequence of bleeding with the assistant I gave and you will be fine. Oh and if you haven't already buy a proper flare nut wrench to undo the bleeders it is worth every cent.

Oh and this sticky thread is awesome: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...fo-please.html read right through it and you will know A LOT about the brake system and bleeding brakes.

The rubber hose to the caliper is probably colapsed. My left rear did the same thing yours is doing. New hose fixed it.

Good call.

I'd be suspecting this too, maybe loosen the union before the rubber hose and see if fluid comes out.

I had the same problem.

I would disconnect the hose going into the caliper. Pump the pedal. If nothing comes out, then the blockage is further back or as stated, a possible collapsed rubber brake line.

When I did it, the fluid came out and I found the tiniest particle blocking the caliper opening. I used a fine needle it get it out and all was fine.
