crate engine question.
Putting a new SB engine in a C3 (particularly the earlier years) is actually pretty easy. Remove the hood and radiator, and install the engine/bellhouse/transmission as one complete unit.
A BB gets to be somewhat fussy. The radiator is difficult to remove (see the Search function). After the radiator issue is solved, installing the BB is not too much more trouble than the SB, except for a lot tighter spaces to work in. The BB is of course a bigger engine, and the fact that it's maybe a couple of hundred pounds heavier doesn't make it easier.
For SB's I can remove and install all by myself (done two). I took a BB out by myself, and I assume I'll be able to replace it myself.
The engine hoist from Harbor Frieght costs $180 and works just fine. I think a rental company wanted something like $40 a day for a rental, so buying the cheapy was the way to go. The similar hoist from Snap-On goes for $1070!!
