Hey Guys,
came across a cable from moates and was gonna download winaldl to my kids laptop and hook it up to my '82 just for grins and giggles. Wil this work on an 82? And exactly what type of things is it going to tell me? Is there a readme file on this or something like the old cliff notes to figure out what I can use and what I cant? The car is a mostly stock 82, 60k miles, has a mild comp cams grind and was going to send out the throttle bodie shafts to be rebushed and was thinking about having them bored out to 2" while they were at the shop. Figured the increased air flow would complement the hotter cam and true dual exhaust with no cats. ANy thoughts?
ESU
Your taking care of the air flow restrictions in the CFI system.
Next would be:
INTAKE MANIFOLD-Get your CFI manifold ported, or get in line for a Renegade manifold from DCS
EXHAUST
Headers, high flow cat or test pipe, free flowing mufflers or 2.5 inch true duals.
GEARS
I did 3.07s and its very noticable with the 700R4 1st gear (3.73 equiv with TH350) and still decent on the highway in overdrive. 3.36 would be closer to C5 A4 set-up.
Hooked up the cable, fired up the laptop and I dont seem to get anything? Is there a step by step for this? Any configuration issues I need to address? What com port, I get OK messages with com 1 and com 3. Theres a 7 digit # beginning with 122 on the top border of the win aldl program thats seems to correspond to items in the configuration window, is this a computer #? What would be correct for an 82 crossfire? ANything else Im missing or need to set up?
Thx Cory
I think if you have an '82 you have OBD 1. Starting in 1996 the ALDL is OBD 2. The physical interface is different and so is the communication protocal. It looks like you already have the old connector, make sure you have the old OBD 2 protocal.

OK, figured out the correct ecm configuration and still cant get any data to feed in. Had a problem with usb port on laptop, corrected that and still no worky........
