Im looking to buy new covers slotted alum or slotted steel.Does anyone know if they are the same specs as orig (hight is what im talking about)and do they come with all the holes in the right spot (pvc / oil cap) Is alum better than steel? If anyone can help me with a vender and a part # that would be a great help.
It all depends on the manufacturer and what you buy as to whether they are the same height or not. If you buy the L82 style finned covers, yes, they are the same height. Tall covers will be taller. In my opinion, cast aluminum are better because they will not bend like stamped steel will, and are therefore less likely to devlop leaks due to the edges not sealing. Cast aluminum will be more costly.
Yes, the L82's will fit yours, however, there are a lot of different valve covers out there. Unless you've put roller rockers on, you should have no problem with any small block Chevy valve cover (obvioulsy, not the center bolt ones though). Pick ones you like. Again, my preference is for cast aluminum, as they won't bend and cuase sealing problems. Beyond that, choose ones that have the look you're looking for.
