OK, I searched a bit, but did not find exactly what I needed, can anyone help walk me through what needs to go where when wiring up my mini starter? I probably disconnected my original about a year and a half ago, and Bubba had been there before me, so I don't know if I'd trust that in any case.
Anyway, here is a pic of the starter:
And here are the wires that I have to work with (new harness):
red and the positive battery cable go to the big terminal, purple to the small terminal and black should be grounded to the engine block or bell housing bolt.
There's nothing like a new harness for our old cars. On my 68, all the smoke came out of the wires. That's when the electricty doesn't work anymore and you need a new harness (with the smoke in the wires). That's all I know about electricy - when the smoke comes outta the wires it doesn't work anymore. And mini starters can even stand up to my L36... Good choice.

A previous owner of my car had fancied himself a backyard electrician, and besides just being old, there were poorly executed splices and extra wires going all over the place (and to nowhere) such that I decided a new engine harness would be a wise investment.
Follow up question, and a dumb one probably, but I just wanted to make sure on something. The big, thick as your pinky finger, black cable from the battery goes to the big terminal too, right?
nate,
That would be a yes! There are only three "wires" on a Corvette that thick, and two come from the battery. The shorter of the two will be grounded to the chassis near the battery box, and the other goes to the starter. A simple continuity check before you connect any cables can't be a bad move, either.
Also, check that you have the third, thick "wire" going from the right side engine mount bracket to the engine block. It is an earth or ground from the chassis to the engine. It uses the bolt that would have attached the original starter motor support to the block.
If you don't have one there, you might have trouble with the operation of the starter motor.
