It was on eBay a few weeks back with a starting price of something like $110,000 or so.
They say some things that I really question. Like the engine stamping suffix they list as "TT". That is NOT a 69 L88 suffix, should be "MR".
Then they state it is the only Red with black interior and white top (how would they know that since GM did not keep option combos) and then go on to say that "ONLY surviving RED L-88 Corvette with a black interior and a white convertible top with matching HARD TOP". So is it the only one or the only surviving? And again, how would they know.
They also say it was a road race car, so no way it is the original engine. In a race car you do not make any effort to keep the original engine, you go with the latest/best engine for the current conditions.
I would have to see tons of documentation before I would ever consider it. At best it is an L88 body/frame with a close replacement engine. That would kill the value as the real value is in the "original" engine, not a numbers matching clone.
Tom......Definatly right about the engine suffix of MR. Mybe that's why it didn't sell on the last auction. If I'm gonna plop down that kinda loot, if I had that kinda loot, the car better be what the #'s say it's supposed to be. Is this a BOGUS Vette??
I've talked to the guy off and on over the 3-4 times I've seen it listed.
It's the real thing, there are typo's in the advertisement that have never been corrected. When I started asking questions, he knew the answers and they matched everything I expected.
Speaking of the "TT," it is "IT" which was the original '68 L-88 manual transmission code as it was an early '69, so a '68 engine is quite likely. All the numbers are consistent with the car being built in Nov '68.
It's the real thing...just not the best ad writer in the world. :smash:

If that is correct, then, I hate to say this, but the owner is not very bright. If you are trying to sell a car for over $100,000 you do not make mistakes in an ad. And run that ad several times without correcting the errors. Just plain stupid. To me, all the more reason to not trust the car. The owner may really believe that it is an original engine car. But someone may have sold him a bill of goods considering his inability to get the correct details in an ad for a car that he wants to sell for over 100 grand.
An historic car, beautiful to look at; NO good to drive (12 1/2:1 c.r., no fan shroud, 104 octane requirement, non-hardened valve seats, etc. etc.).......
I have enough stuff in storage. Nice. No thanks.
:chevy :chevy
Just went on Ebay and there is another 69L88 Convertible for sale. It is red and I remember seeing that car at BG last year. I am not sure if it is a real one.
