What size hole in crossover?

What size hole in crossover?
I see a number of people putting larger size exhaust pipes on--what is the standard size hole through the crossover? Have been seriously considering doing this to my 1970. I see where the suppliers are advertising a 2 1/2 pipe with a 2 inch at the manifold.

I looked through my AIM and only saw a reccommendation of 1/4" clearance recommended between exhaust pipe & opening. I didn't see a dimension for the opening.
But, FWIW, here a pic of a 3" pipe going through the crossmember...

I don't think I have 1/4" clearance, but it's mounted well and doesn't bang around in there.
If your '70 crossmember is the same as mine, I would think you'd be OK. I think a lot of members are running 2-1/2" through the crossmember.
