Can anyone help with a problem I have been having with wearing out V belts on a '76 350 SBC with the Heavy Duty Radiator and Fan Option, with the AC unit removed. I understand that a single V belt will struggle to drive the HD Fan, because of the deleted AC drive belt.
What I want to do is reinstate the drive belt without fitting the AC unit, which I don't have or any of the brackets.
Any good ideas would be appreciated, although I don't want to loose the HD fan.
Well, I resolved this by putting a short belt direct from bottom pulley to fan drive pulley, it was a Gates 7340, I got it on by starting it on the bottom groove and getting it started on the top pulley. I then bumped it with the starter which put it onto the top pulley. It feels quite tight at present, but I think with use, it will slacken off.
It's good to be able to rev the engine without a squeal.
