Default 71 Gas Tank Installation Problem

I'm installing a new gas tank in my 71 corvette.

I have the new tank up in it's place. The crossbar below the tank is about 1 1/2" from lining up with the bolt holes on the frame (both ends). I tried using a crowbar to push it over. It's in a real bind.

Any tips/tricks, advice?

Is this normal? It seems as if my straps are too short for the new tank.

It has been 2 years since I re installed my same tank back into my 71, but as I recall the strapes should be loose until the tank is sitting on the front cross bar. just have the straps loose coming from over the top. Loosen the bolts on the other end of the strapes almost all the way to gain slack. Then get the tank on the front cross member and tighten the cross member bolts. Once all of that is right , the tighten the bolts at the rear of the straps to sinch up.

Good Luck

David

Keep everything loose and get it all into position, and it should all line up, ready to tighten it all. good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I thought I had it in the correct place but I was in inch or so low. when I got it up where it needed to be things lighted up pretty good.

Thanks

Roger
