Drove my '68 up to the local cruise in on Saturday and it started fine in the garage. Stopped for gas on the way and when I tried to start it after filling up, it acted like the battery was weak. Finally got it going and drove off.
After sitting at the cruise in for a couple of hours, it started right up with no issues.
The battery is only a couple of months old and was put in the car when I bought it in October. I disconnect the battery when it is parked in the garage.
Any ideas why it would do this when the car is warm but is fine when cold?
I doub't from the way you describe the slow start that it is the dreaded heat soak solenoid. I would go over all your heavy cable connections.
Battery connections
Neg battery cable connection at the frame under the battery box
Neg ground cable that goes from the frame to the engine block at the pass side motor mount
Pos cable connection at the starter
Make sure you have the heat shield that goes between the starter and the exhaust manifold. Sounds like heat soak to me too.

Most likely heat related but are you guys thinking "solenoid heat soak" ?
If so solenoid heat soak usually means there is not even a click when you turn the key. It sounds to me in this case the engine was turning slow.
The other "starter heat soak" I believe is a myth. It has to do with the engine being harder to turn over when hot verses cold and poor battery connections and sulfated battery's and weak battery's and grounding issues.
